DCLM Sincere Milk 28 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — It doesn’t matter how long
TOPIC: IT DOESN’T MATTER HOW LONG
TEXT: JOHN 5:2-9
3In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
Key Verse: “And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years” (John 5:5).
MESSAGE:
The sin of Adam and Eve and the curse that followed brought about many problems which included disease, sickness, affliction, calamities and others upon the human race. Many people are daily battling with life-threatening sicknesses and afflictions. They go from one hospital to the other without finding solution to their problems.
This was the case of the man at the pool of Bethesda. He had been sick for thirty-eight years without getting a relief or help from anyone. It was a sorry sight until Jesus met him. Jesus asked the man, “Will thou be made whole?” Instead of a ‘Yes’ answer, that suggested faith, the man went into the history of his problem, his helplessness and how all human effort to come out had failed.

The lesson here is that Jesus does not need our stories but our faith in Him. When you are sick or in any challenging situation, know that the promises of God are sure and that Jesus Christ is compassionate and actually wants to heal and deliver you.
The length of time we have carried a problem has nothing to do with Jesus’ solution. No matter how long your problem has stayed with you, tell it to Jesus, believe that He alone can help you and you will experience His powerful touch.
Prayer: Oh God, let all Your promises come to pass in my life.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
