DCLM Higher Everyday 9 July 2024 — Jericho’s Wall Falls

DCLM Higher Everyday 9 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi Jericho’s Wall Falls

Topic: Jericho’s Wall Falls

Text: Joshua 6:20-27

20So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

21And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

22But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

23And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.

24And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the LORD.

25And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

26And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

27So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

Key Verse:  “So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat…” (Joshua 6:20).

Message

The Wall of any house or city, is very important for security and preservation. Once the wall is down, the house, the city and the people are subject to all forms of attack and invasion. Jericho in our study had been marked down for destruction and possession. Before the children of Israel, the wall of Jericho was intimidating and almost impenetrable. Yet, to possess their promised inheritance, they must bring down the wall of Jericho. As the children of Israel obeyed strictly the rules and instructions given by God through Joshua, and acted by faith, the wall of Jericho fell down and they possessed the land.

Today, Jericho wall represents barriers and problems that must be brought down before you can enjoy your promised inheritance. Like the children of Israel, you can bring down all things that symbolize Jericho wall through faith and obedience to the word of God! No matter how intimidating those barriers are, you can overcome and possess your blessings. Of utmost importance is the promise of our mansions in heaven. We must persevere, and overcome all hindrances to get there.

Quote: They possessed the land

Challenge: Every Christian youth is destined to conquer.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to activate my faith and conquer every obstacle.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
