DCLM Higher Everyday 25 July 2024 — John’s Witness To Jesus

DCLM Higher Everyday 25 July 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiJohn’s Witness To Jesus

Topic: John’s Witness To Jesus

Text: John 1:15-18

15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Key Verse: “No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John1:18).

Message

As the master of ceremony introduces an iconic man at a special gathering, so John the Baptist heralded the ministry of Jesus Christ; pointing out His superiority as being greater than he, himself. George Matheson declared, that, “John’s main business was to bear witness to the light and this may be yours and mine. John was content to be only   a voice, if men would think of Jesus.” Jesus is the access to the Father and the Revealer of God to man. Without the presence of Jesus in our lives, we will struggle helplessly against sin. It is through Him we can receive grace to live above sin and become all that God wants us to be. Jesus reveals God to us. The right knowledge of God we have determines our strength and the exploits we perform in this world. When we know Jesus the right way, we too, like John the Baptist, can testify of Him to the world. Why? Because, Jesus said, “And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.”

Quote: Jesus is greater than all

Challenge: Know Jesus and make Him known to others!

Prayer for today: Oh God, help me to be a good witness, in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
