DCLM Higher Everyday 25 September 2023 — Joseph’s Upward Mobility

DCLM Higher Everyday  25 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Joseph’s Upward Mobility

Topic: Joseph’s Upward Mobility

Text: Psalm 105:16-22

16Moreover he called for a famine upon the land: he brake the whole staff of bread.

17He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:

18Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron:

19Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.

20The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

21He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance:

22To bind his princes at his pleasure; and teach his senators wisdom.

Key Verse: “He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant” (Psalm 105:17).

Message

The paradox, “The way up is down,” is exemplified in the life of Joseph. He was destined for the top, yet he had to face the:

Jealousy of his brothers;

Oppression in the prison;

Slavery of the hopeless;

Extremity of adversity;

Pressure of pollution; and

Humiliation of a servant.

In spite of all these, he remained resolute, faithful and pure before God.

Beloved Christian youth, are you giving up on yourself? God has not given up on you. Whatever you are passing through now can’t drown you. From the prison God took Joseph to the palace to occupy his destined position. Even when he was unjustly charged with the heinous crime of attempted rape, his dedication and devotion to God was not affected. All the things he faced were the road to promotion. At the time appointed by God, he was released (Habakkuk 2:3). Be faithful to God and He will lift you higher.

Quote: God has not given up on you

Challenge: Faith in God assures promotion.

Prayer for today: Father, take me to my appointed destiny.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
