TOPIC: LESSONS FROM LITTLE THINGS – 1
TEXT: MATTHEW 13:31-35
32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:
35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
Key Verse: “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened” (Matthew 13:33).
MESSAGE:
A very little or insignificant thing sometimes makes a great difference. If you have ever been to a bakery where bread is being made, you will discover that the ingredient needed to make the bread rise to become a big loaf is tiny yeast. The yeast, as tiny as it is, compared to the quantity of the other ingredients, always makes the difference.
Little things that we often neglect to take care of can either have a positive or negative impact on important or even life-threatening matters. For example, Lot’s wife neglected the instruction not to look back, she did and became a pillar of salt. On the positive side, the command to preach the gospel that the disciples started in a small way, has yielded so much fruit that it has spread to every part of the world.
The lesson you should take to heart here is that you should not neglect to take care of little things that may affect your life either positively or negatively. Close your eyes while praying, it will shut out distractions. Wake up a little bit earlier than usual so as to have enough time to do quiet time and prepare for the day’s activities.
Copy your notes at the right time, do your homework and assignment well, and submit at the appropriate time. Buckle your shoes/sandals, wear your clothes appropriately and be smart. Pay attention to cleanliness of your body and environment. God will help you to always do the right thing at the right time.
Prayer: Lord, give me the wisdom to always pay attention to little things that matter.
Further Reading: 2 Peter 1:5-8
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
