TOPIC: LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR
TEXT: MATTHEW 22:34-40
35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38This is the first and great commandment.
39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
MEMORY VERSE: “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself” (MATTHEW 22:39).
MESSAGE:
Jesus said, “Love your neighbour as yourself,” is the second great commandment. Loving God with our whole being is the greatest. To Love God and man requires genuine salvation and faith in Christ. “Love your neighbour as yourself,” means you’re determined to seek the best interest of others because you delight in God. It means love for my neighbour equals love for me.
In loving your neighbour, there won’t be hatred, bullying, oppression, fighting, vengeance, and backbiting; rather, there’ll be kindness, patience, truthfulness, politeness, forgiveness, and humility. It means you won’t hurt your neighbour or take whatever belongs to him forcefully, just the way you don’t want such hurt inflicted on you.
Imagine a world where everyone loves their neighbour as themselves! There would be no fighting, school shooting, rape, and kidnap incidents in our communities. That would be a peaceful society. If you desire this kind of world, then let your little light shine. Be a neighbour who is ready to love all around you. Let Jesus come into your heart and you can show true love.
QUOTE: Let your little light shine.
CHALLENGE: Are you a good and loving neighbour?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me a blessing to my neighbours.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
