DCLM Higher Everyday 4 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Money management skills
TOPIC: MONEY MANAGEMENT SKILLS
TEXT: MATTHEW 25:14-21
15And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
19After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
MEMORY VERSE: “Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents” (MATTHEW 25:16).
MESSAGE:
Money management involves the act of monitoring the way money is spent. It covers how one budgets, saves, invests and spends his/her money. Money management skills help one to achieve financial security.
Improper use of money can ruin an organization, individual or a family. Wallace Denton said, “We cannot avoid facing the fact that unhealthy and immature attitudes towards money are at the base of many family difficulties.”

The servant that received five talents traded wisely and gained 100% on his investments. Likewise the servant that received two talents. They were both commended and rewarded. However, the servant that got one talent, out of laziness and pride, refused to work and gained nothing. He was rebuked and disciplined.
As a youth, you must be mindful and disciplined in how you spend money. Avoid unnecessary spending and borrowing. Budget appropriately. Also, learn to save and invest from the little you get from your parents or from any work you do. Moreover, as a Christian, tithe and give for the work of God if you have money, no matter how little.
QUOTE: Avoid unnecessary spending.
CHALLENGE: Set financial goals to achieve financial stability.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to turn my little resources into a mighty empire.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
