DCLM Higher Everyday  7 November 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Nothing But The Truth

Topic: Nothing But The Truth

Text: Ephesians 4:22-25

22That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Key Verse: “Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another” (Ephesians 4:25).

Message

Lying is one of the most widespread characteristics of the human race. It is so ingrained in the nature of man that very few people had gained mastery over it. According to a National Geographic columnist, “Being deceitful is woven into our very fabric, so much so that it would be truthful to say that to lie is human.”

There are different types of lies and liars. First, there are the compulsive liars who make up stories that do not add up. Then there are habitual liars that lie all the time even when there is no need for a lie. Pathological liars are excellent liars and it is difficult to differentiate their truth from their lies. Sociopathic liars on the other hand tell deliberate lies with malicious intent – to harm and deceive. Most people are occasional liars who tell lies to avoid unpleasant consequences. Some tell ‘white lies,’ which are considered harmless or even beneficial. Lying is sin and is of the devil. The Lake of Fire awaits all liars. Receive power from Christ to tell nothing but the truth.

Quote: Lying is sin and of the devil

Challenge: Be born again and overcome lying.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to speak the truth always in Jesus’ name.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
