DCLM Sincere Milk 26 October 2022 — Danger in desiring to be like others

DCLM Sincere Milk 26 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Danger in desiring to be like others

TOPIC: DANGER IN DESIRING TO BE LIKE OTHERS

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 8:19-22

19Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

20That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

21And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.

22And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

Key Verse: “That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles” (1 Samuel 8:20).

MESSAGE:

Israel greatly offended God, though He advised Samuel to do as Israel requested, yet this was not the will of God for them. God may seem to say yes when He knows we have made up our minds to go our own ways. The case of the children of Israel is a good example.

God agreed that Israel should have a human king, though this was not His will for them. Samuel, the Prophet, by the counsel of God had taken time to tell Israel of the serious danger of choosing a human king, Israel rejected the divine counsel and chose to have their will done. This was one of the greatest mistakes the children of Israel ever made. These human kings afflicted and led them away from God.

Children face the temptation to imitate other people in almost everything. You know nothing about the future. It is advisable for you to follow the instructions of the One who knows tomorrow from today. God gives us the Bible to guide us.

Today, prayerfully reject every suggestion in your heart or counsel from others to do anything that is against the will of God. This is the path to enjoying God’s presence and peace.

Prayer: My Lord, help me to overcome the temptation to do my will in copying ungodly influence.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
