TOPIC: OBEY GOD

BIBLE TEXT: ACTS 5:20-29

20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

25 Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

MEMORY VERSE: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men” (ACTS 5:29).

MESSAGE:

A song writer, Andrew L. Byers, penned these down:

“By Thy blessed word obeying,
Lord, we prove our love sincere;
For we hear Thee gently saying,
‘Love will do as well as hear.'”

“Dear Redeemer, we would hallow
All Thy word so firm and true;
In Thy footsteps meekly follow,
Thy commands we love to do.”

Obeying God is in conformity to honouring and praising Him for your life and blessing within. Loyalty to God in all circumstances is a hallmark of genuine Christian conduct.

Obedience entails putting doing the will of God first in all your endeavours. When Men’s command conflicts with God’s command, you have to stick to God’s bidding not minding whose ox is gored. If you are struggling with obeying God, pray for God’s empowerment and grace to do His will. Do you do the will of God? Are you embarking on the Great Commission? Learn to obey the Great command – preaching the gospel to all nations. You can start where you are. Obey God in all matters concerning your life; you will be glad you did.

QUOTE: Obey God in all matters.

CHALLENGE: Fulfill the great commission always.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to obey You in all matters.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
