DCLM Sincere Milk 8 July 2023 — Obey His Voice. Provoke Him Not

DCLM Sincere Milk  8 July 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Obey His Voice. Provoke Him Not

Topic: Obey His Voice. Provoke Him Not

Text: Exodus 23:20-23

20Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

21Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

22But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

23For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

Key Verse: “Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him” Exodus 23:21

Message

The school prospectus clearly spelt out the rules and regulations of the school. Danny was given a copy and was advised by the Vice Principal (administration) to read through it with his parents. He was asked to sign the acceptance letter and return it to the school if they accept all the conditions for admission into his new school. But against the school regulations, Danny packed two pairs of his regular dresses along with the school uniform. The school authority had forbidden this so as to stop the students from sneaking out of the school. During a routine check, the clothes were found in the bottom of Danny’s portmanteau. He was punished for his disobedience to the school’s rules and regulations.

The Bible warns the children of Israel of the painful consequences of disobeying God’s Angel, His Messenger. God’s protection, provision and His presence will be with them as long as they continue to obey God. It was for Israel’s good to remain faithful to her God. Which one is better: obeying God’s word and enjoying His blessings or disobeying Him and receiving His punishment? God loves children who obey Him. If you want to enjoy His favour and mercy, obey God’s instructions in the Bible. Then you will be entitled to all His promised blessings.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
