DCLM Sincere Milk 4 November 2023 — Our Shelter From Storm
DCLM Sincere Milk 4 November 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Our Shelter From Storm
Topic: Our Shelter From Storm
Text: Isaiah 25:1-5
2For thou hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to be no city; it shall never be built.
3Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee.
4For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
5Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
Key Verse: “For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.” Isaiah 25:4
Message
A shelter is a place of refuge and safety. Jesus Christ, the Rock of Ages is our Shelter, Refuge and Strength in time of storm. The storm can come in different shades and forms,-like sickness, poverty, lack, failure, discouragement, fear of the unknown, temptations, trials and persecution. We need not fear, but rather trust the Saviour and confess like the hymn writer that
“The Lord’s our Rock, in Him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm,
Secure whatever ill betide
A shelter in the time of storm.
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land, A weary land, a weary land,
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land, A shelter in the time of storm.
The raging storm may round us beat, A shelter in the time of storm,
We’ll never leave our safe retreat, A shelter in the time of storm.” (Ira D. Sankey, 1885)

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, shelter me from the storms of life.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
