DCLM Sincere Milk 20 October 2023 — I go a fishing

DCLM Sincere Milk  20 October 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — I go a fishing

Topic: I go a fishing

Text: John 21:1-6

1After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

2There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

3Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

4But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

5Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

6And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Key Verse: “Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.” John 21:3

Message

After Christ’s death, burial and resurrection, the disciples were left confused. They were not sure what would become of their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, their Master and Lord. They also did not know what to do next.

One day, Peter announced that he was going out to fish. Other disciples then decided to follow him to the sea of Tiberias to go and fish. They were at the sea all night but caught nothing.

Suddenly, the Lord appeared on the scene. Jesus is a loving, compassionate Saviour. He came just at the right time to give them direction to where the fishes were. It is important to wait patiently for the Lord to receive guidance in everything we do.

Jesus lovingly proved to Peter that his calling was not only to fish for daily bread, but to fish for sinners. When Jesus called them the first time, He said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” This is what Christ is calling His friends to do today. While studying and preparing for your future, remember to also fish for sinners. Tell them of the love of Christ and show them how to trust and serve the Lord. This is the most rewardable service on earth.

Prayer for today: Lord, help me to be a true fisher of men.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
