DCLM Sincere Milk 12 September 2023 — Overcoming The Wicked One

DCLM Sincere Milk  12 September 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Overcoming The Wicked One

Topic: Overcoming The Wicked One

Text: 1 John 5: 18- 21

18We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Key Verse: “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” 1 John 5:18

Message

The devil is described as the wicked one because that is who he is. The devil does not think good of anyone as he goes around seeking whom he may devour. This is why it is very important for you to resist the devil and he will flee from you. If you are born of God, you will no more commit sin and the seed of God will remain in you.

If you are still committing sin, you are not born of God. The only way the devil can have power over you is for you to fall into sin. You can only overcome the wicked one by living a holy life, keeping yourself pure from any form of sin and defilement and allowing the word of God dwell in your heart. The power to overcome the devil is in your hand. Make up your mind to live a holy life today, so that you can have power to overcome the wicked one.

Prayer for today: Lord, give me constant victory over the wicked one.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
