TOPIC: PASSION REVEALS POTENTIAL – 4

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 17:55-56

55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.

56 And the king said, Enquire thou whose son the stripling is.

MEMORY VERSE: “And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand” (1 SAMUEL 17:57).

MESSAGE:

Eventually, David conquered Goliath, and the Philistines were brought down before this lad. David was celebrated nationally as a hero and deliverer as he “returned from the slaughter of the Philistine…with the head of the Philistine in his hand.”

Yes! David accomplished the seemingly impossible with the help of God. He achieved this feat because he allowed a challenge to bring out his potential to the fore. Potential generally refers to a currently unrealized ability. There are so many things the name of Jesus can accomplish in your life, but you need to stir up that potential in you.

The potential hidden in the power of sonship or daughtership is enormous because as many as receive Christ as Lord and Saviour are given power to become the sons or daughters of God.

Note that youths who are not born again cannot excercise this power because their lives are defiled and cannot attract the attention of heaven, except they genuinely repent of their sins and make Christ their Lord and Saviour.

QUOTE: Eventually, David conquered Goliath.

CHALLENGE: Stir up your potentials.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to wake up my potentials.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
