TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 17:48-54

48 And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.

52 And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.

53 And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they spoiled their tents.

54 And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.

MEMORY VERSE: “And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine” (1 SAMUEL 17:48).

MESSAGE

David’s fight against Goliath, a giant who troubled Israel, attracts a lot of theological analysis because of the uniqueness of the faith of David which moved him to choose to engage the enemy, in spite of distractions from eminent Israelites who tried to discourage him. However, David was determined to crush Goliath who had crossed the red line.

Determination can be seen as positive emotional feelings that could motivate one in attaining a goal, in spite of obstacles. “David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine” because he was determined to set his people free from the hands of the enemy nation and Goliath.

Many youths are under the bondage of the devil like the Philistines wanted to keep Israel under bondage. Youths who are born again stand in the position of David today to liberate their school mates and those in their neighbourhood from the enemies of their souls. If you are a child of God, you need to be determined to passionately preach the gospel to others to bring them out of bondage.

QUOTE: Passionately preach the gospel to others.

CHALLENGE: Passionately rescue the perishing.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to liberate my friends from every Goliath.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
