TOPIC: PAST AND PRESENT STATUS

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11

9Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

MEMORY VERSE: “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 CORINTHIANS 6:11).

MESSAGE:

The entire human race was lost and heading for eternal damnation but for the timely intervention of God with a redemption plan, personified in Jesus Christ. Having paid the supreme price on the Cross of Calvary, Jesus invites all who would believe, to come and receive eternal life.

Those who heed this call are instantaneously delivered from darkness and translated into the kingdom of His dear Son (John 1:7-11; Colossians 1:13). Thus, a new creature is born, as observed by Lee Strobel: “Jesus Christ did not come into this world to make bad people good; He came into this world to make dead people live.”

So, your past status is that you were dead in sins and trespasses – a fornicator, thief, drunkard, etc. But all that has changed; your present status is beautiful. It says that you are washed, sanctified and justified (1 Corinthians 6:11). Praise the Lord!

If indeed you are born again, you are like a person who went for a comprehensive medical examination and is declared free of any disease. It is wonderful!

QUOTE: Your present status is beautiful.

CHALLENGE: Turn away from your sinful past and embrace a saintly future in Christ.

PRAYER: Grant me the grace, O Lord, to ignore my past and sustain my new life.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
