DCLM Higher Everyday 16 June 2026 — Peter Slid!
Topic: Peter Slid!
Bible Reading: Matthew 26:69-75 (KJV)
69Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
70But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
71And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
73And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
74Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
75And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
KEY VERSE: Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew” (Matthew 26:74)
Message
Floors and other surfaces can become slippery for a variety of reasons, from wet floors to debris like banana pills left in walkways. Appropriate signage warnings such as the yellow caution sign, are often used to draw attention to wet floors to reduce slips and falls. Also, we can put on footwear with good traction to avoid slips, trips and falls. We must not be careless or overconfident like Peter. Overconfidence breeds prayerlessness and can lead to a great fall.
Friend, many spiritual falls start on this note. If you don’t want to fall, stay away from slippery places. Peter was with the wrong crowd. Are you paying attention to where you are stepping as you browse the internet, make friends or visit places? Don’t fly blind, telling yourself, ‘I know myself.’ Follow the preventive steps in God’s word. Have you slid like Peter? Identify the cause. Get up and reach out for help. Repent and pray for restoration. Just as we use handrails on stair cases, you must lean on Christ’s arm. Beloved, walk carefully – danger is near.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, help me to pray and be confident in you.
CHALLENGE
Avoid overconfidence; anyone can fall.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
