TOPIC: POWER TO SAY NO
TEXT: GENESIS 39:7-12
8 But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
10 And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
11 And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.
12 And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
Key Verse: “There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9).
MESSAGE:
There was a news report about a group of children who suddenly became very sick and were rushed to the hospital. After running some tests, the doctor discovered that the children fell sick as a result of food poisoning. A classmate had brought some bowls of food to the children to celebrate her birthday. It took much effort on the part of the medical personnel on duty to save the lives of those children.
However, there was a girl in that class who did not share in the food. She said her mother had instructed her not to eat food prepared outside her home. Obedience to this single instruction saved her from food poisoning. She was wise enough to say “No!”
Many children always find it difficult to say “No” to temptation to do wrong things, especially when they are alone. It was not so with Joseph. Though he found himself in a strange land, yet he stood for righteousness and a godly lifestyle. He was able to say no to Potiphar’s wife who was bent on luring him into immoral relationship. Though Joseph suffered for saying no to evil, he became victorious at the end.
You too will be victorious when you say no to evil and yes to the word of God. You can receive power to say no when you surrender your heart totally to God. Also, you must fill your heart with God’s word, meditate on it day and night, and use it against Satan when he comes with his temptations. Be determined to always say no to all evil influences. God will support you.
Prayer: Father, please give me the courage and power to always say no to evil.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
