Topic: Prayer That Changes Destiny – Part 1
Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10
9And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
Key Verse: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.” 1 Chronicles 4:10
Message
The story of Jabez is a clear testimony about the fact prayer can change someone’s destiny. There are lots of testimonies even in our present times concerning the power of prayer. Many children who would have ended up a failure had destinies changed through prayers of faith. A concerned father brought his son to my office during one of my counselling sessions. The boy was having serious difficulty in his academics. He could not comprehend what the teachers were teaching him. He failed many subjects and was asked to repeat his class.
The father, who is a believer brought him to me for prayers. I then prayed a very short but passionate prayer for the boy. Lo and behold, the boy’s situation changed and he was promoted. The father later shared the testimony of how God answered their prayers. As Christians, we should take all our problems to God in prayer, believing that God has power to deliver us. Your prayer can change your situation and your destiny and give you a testimony.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, give me courage to always take everything to You in prayers.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
