TOPIC: PRAYER SETTLES PROBLEMS
BIBLE TEXT Genesis 32:24-30
24And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
27And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
29And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
MEMORY VERSE:”And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but lsrael: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed”(Genesis 32:28).
MESSAGE:
Life is full of challenges and uncertainties. One common denominator is that everyone at one point in time will have a problem that needs solution. At crossroads in our lives, we must know whom to turn to for solutions.God is that solution provider. Someone said, “Nothing lies beyond the reach of prayer except that which lies outside the will of God.”
The story of Jacob in our text proves to us the possibilitics of prayer. He was determined to change the status-quo. He wrestled with sincerity of purpose to get a desired change in his life. He was open-minded and did not cover up or lie in God’s presence as he did earlier to his father.
Many people seek every other means to solve their problems except those of God. This has led to disappointments, frustrations and retrogression. However, prayer will change the narrative. Jacob, upon recognizing the opportunity to once again grasp his destiny, did so with persistence.Prayer is therefore very important in our day-to-day engagements as it is a guarantee for solving our problems.
CHALLENGE: What can
prayer not do?
PRAYER: Oh Lord, hear my cry and attend to my prayer
QUOTE: Prayer will change the narrative
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
