TOPIC: PRAYING FOR YOUR NATION

TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 2:1-6

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

MEMORY VERSE: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men” (1 TIMOTHY 2:1).

MESSAGE:

Charles Spurgeon said, “The Biblical account of intercessors in both Old and New Testament is a proof that intercessors are needed constantly from generation to generation to intercept God’s impending judgment because of daily increase of sin and iniquity.” Praying for your nation demands time and sacrifice. God promised answers to prayers. Intercessors stand between God and people or nations, appeasing God on their behalf. Paul cited supplication, prayers, intercession and giving of thanks as part of believers’ communication with God.

Pray for all men, all need prayers: school heads and teachers, parents, church leaders, presidents, state governors, friends, foes, classmates and family relations. Whether they are good or bad, pray for them. Moses interceded for the nation of Israel, pleading that God would forgive them. Paul prayed for his kinsmen’s salvation. The terrible state of things in the world today calls for intercession of believers in all nations as many world leaders are getting confused. When you hear of the high wave of immorality, violent crimes, cultism and internet fraud among youngsters, are you not concerned? We must pray!

QUOTE: All need prayers.

CHALLENGE: Appropriate requests beget appropriate answers.

PRAYER: Lord, help our nation, save our secular leaders.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
