DCLM Sincere Milk 16 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Prove all things
TOPIC: PROVE ALL THINGS
TEXT: 1 THESSALONIANS 5:21-24
21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
Key Verse: “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
MESSAGE:
The giant mango tree in Matthew’s compound produces fruits all the year round. Matthew and his younger brother go out every morning to gather the fruits.
What they always do before they start eating, is to sort out the fruits. This is the process of separating the good ones from the bad ones. By this, they prove which of the fruits are good for eating and which ones are not. They were aware of the grave harm eating infected fruits will cause to their health.
To prove means to test the worth or quality of something. The Bible passage today emphasizes the wisdom of proving or foreseeing the physical and spiritual benefits of every action and relationship before going into them.

In those days, as it is today, there were many people who claim to be teachers from God. They taught believers to do things that were not according to God’s word. They even said Christ will not come again.
As a friend of Jesus, you must compare every word you hear, everything that is done in your school and neighbourhood, with what the Bible teaches. Hold fast unto what the Bible commands; for they are good. And reject those things that are against the word of God.
Prayer: Lord, give me courage and wisdom to reject the evil practices in the world and obey all You command.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
