DCLM Sincere Milk  3 January 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 1 – Stand Not

Topic: Psalmist’s Counsel – Part 2 – Stand Not

Text: Psalm 1:1-3

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Key Verse: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners,” Psalm 1:1a,b

Message

Standing is a form of posture that allows one to be in an upright position at a particular location. Therefore, standing and location go hand in hand because where you stand either physically or in decision making is located around someone or something. Lot decided to locate his dwelling place in the city of Sodom that was given to sin and evil. It took divine intervention for him and his daughters to be delivered from the destruction where he lost all that he had. He stood where the sinners were standing, close to where all their events and parties were happening. He did not only lose properties but his wife was also lost forever. DO NOT STAND IN THE WAY OF SINNERS!

What about Dinah the only daughter of Jacob. She went out to observe the ways of sinners, stood in their ways and she lost her virginity. Have you been secretly admiring the ways of sinners? Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Beware, make the right choices in friendship, type of school, type of books you read and sites you visit on the internet.

Prayer for today: Dear Father, help me to stand for You and You alone.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
