DCLM Higher Everyday 18 August 2023 — Reflect Jesus
DCLM Higher Everyday 18 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Reflect Jesus
Topic: Reflect Jesus
Text: Matthew 5:13-16
14Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Key Verse: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Message
“There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it,” said Edith Wharton. Indeed the Christian youths should let others see Jesus in them where ever they go. Ina Duley Ogdon wrote the hymn, Brighten the Corner Where You Are. One of its stanzas says:
“Here for all your talent you may surely find a need,
Here reflect the Bright and Morning Star,
Even from your humble hand the bread of life may feed,
Brighten the corner where you are.”
Jesus is the Light of the world, the Sun of righteousness (John 8:12; Malachi 24:2), sent by His Heavenly Father to redeem the world from eternal damnation, the ultimate end of bondage to sin and Satan. All who repent of their sins and receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour are transformed into little lights of righteousness that lead other sinners out of their sinful darkness. Thus converted, one becomes empowered to mirror the life of Jesus, reflecting the fullness of His power, glory and dominion here in this world. The choice is yours.
Quote: Jesus is the Light of the world
Challenge: Wouldn’t you love to mirror Jesus?
Prayer for today: Strengthen me, Oh God, to keep reflecting Jesus the Light always.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
