Topic: Rejecting Godly Reproof

Text: Proverbs 29:1-3

1He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

2When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

3Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

Key Verse: “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:1).

Message

Our world, today, is full of people who are drifting away from God’s Word as regards the standard of life that God has designed for humanity. The society is so permissive that it calls good, evil and evil, good. Anything goes and everything is accepted freely except the Gospel, which is able to transform and beautify one’s life.

A Christian writer puts it this way, “The desire to be accepted by the world and its standards are very dangerous and have driven and are driving many away from the desire to receive correction from the Word of God. Instead, they reject it and have God and the world at the same time as they live life pleasing themselves.”

What is your opinion on godly counsel and reproof? If you shun reproof, be sure that you will be worse for it, bringing to yourself doom and disgrace. However, Jesus invites you today, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).Yes, rest from immoral acts, smoking, drinking, violence and satanic oppression.

Quote: You will be worse for it

Challenge: Count the cost of rejecting godly reproof.

Prayer for today: Have your way in my life, oh God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
