DCLM Higher Everyday 16 July 2026 — Rejoice In Your Youth
Topic: Rejoice In Your Youth
Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:7-10 (KJV)
7Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
9Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
KEY VERSE: Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment” (Ecclesiastes 11:9).
Message
An American poet, Carl Sandburg, wrote, “Time is the coin of your life… Only you can determine how it will be spent.” The period of youthful life is a pleasant time, comparable to the delight you feel when you see the day begin with a bright sun or when light comes up. How you spend your youthful life matters a lot because just as the sun will not always be there, this beautiful moment will also pass. As daylight gives way to darkness, so will youthful time give way to old age. You must always remember this and not give yourself to just any desire of your heart, what appeals to your sight or immoral actions and activities that are based on lack of self-restraint.
All those who spend their youthful days irresponsibly, thinking that they are enjoying themselves, will suffer the consequence in their old age. Besides, “know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.” The only way to escape these fearful outcomes is to repent and “put away evil” from all you do.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Lord, grant me the wisdom to make good use of my youth.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
