DCLM Sincere Milk 15 DECEMBER 2021 — Respect Your Parents

DCLM Sincere Milk 15 DECEMBER 2021 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Respect Your Parents

TOPIC: RESPECT YOUR PARENTS

TEXT: LEVITICUS 19:1-4

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

3 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.

4 Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.

Key Verse: “Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19:3).

MESSAGE:

The word respect means to reverence or give honour to somebody. This is expressed through obedience.

The childhood of our Lord Jesus Christ clearly shows that He respected His earthly parents. “And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart” (Luke 2:51).

Our mothers conceived and gave birth to us. They go through much pains and hardship during pregnancy and child birth. Both parents work day and night to provide and care for their children. They spend their hard-earned money to pay school fees, buy clothes, food, and pay medical bills. They do all these because they care for their children.

In appreciation for parental love and sacrifice, God commands every child to respect his/her parents by obeying them. God expects parents to give their children godly instructions and guidelines in life. Children in turn are expected to be obedient in order to receive God’s blessings.

Obedience to godly instruction from your parents is not optional, it is a MUST. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.”

Prayer: Lord, make me an obedient child.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
