DCLM Higher Everyday 5 January 2026 — Rewrite Your Story

DCLM Higher Everyday 5 January 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Rewrite Your Story

Topic: Rewrite Your Story

Text: 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

9And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.

10And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Key Verse: “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed…And God granted him that which he requested” (1 Chronicles 4:10).

Message

Albert Eistein said: “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” This submission should serve as an encouragement to any youth facing challenges. Do you have a problem that is very hard to bear? Do not wrestle with it; take it to the Lord in Prayer. Jabez in our text had a challenge but instead of yielding to his fate and continuing to wrestle with it, he decided to call on God whom he knew had the solution to it. The Scripture tells us that because of his insistence to tell God his problem, his negative story changed automatically to an honourable one. The case of Jabez underscores the importance of prayers in the life of a believer experiencing momentary challenges. Jabez changed his story!

Is there any challenge in your academic, health and other life situations that you are struggling with? The solution to all problems lies with God through prayer from a pure heart and holy life. Do not forget that you are the only one that can take the resolute decision to rewrite your story just as Jabez did.

Challenge: Be determined to change your story.

Prayer for today: Oh Lord, help me to overcome my challenges.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
