DCLM Higher Everyday 20 August 2023 — Rooted And Established In Christ
DCLM Higher Everyday 20 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Rooted And Established In Christ
Topic: Rooted And Established In Christ
Text: Colossians 2:6-9
6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Key Verse: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving (Colossians 2:7).
Message
Deep roots are essential for survival and continued existence of plants, particularly big trees because by them they can continue to access underground water, surviving hard weather conditions all year round. Besides, being deeply-rooted, trees are able to withstand ferocious storms and winds.
Similarly, every Christian who would consistently resist and overcome the enemy’s onslaughts must get firmly rooted in the Word of God and be established in faith. Thus grounded, we shall valiantly quench all the fiery darts of the devil, the flesh, and the world of sin. Any surprise that Daniel, Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego were able to survive the evil spiritual atmosphere of Babylon? They were taught the Word of God from childhood by their parents in Israel and they never departed from it even though they were carried into captivity in Babylon (Deuteronomy 6: 4-7). You can choose to become spiritually immune to all the trending satanic wiles that easily entangle young people of today and ultimately damn their souls in hell. Reach for Jesus and get rooted in Him.
Quote: Be established in the faith
Challenge: The deep-rooted trees overcome the strongest of storms.
Prayer for today: Help me, Jehovah, to get rooted in the eternal Rock of Salvation.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
