DCLM Sincere Milk 11 November 2023 — Salt Is Good

DCLM Sincere Milk  11 November 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Salt Is Good

Topic: Salt Is Good

Text: Mark 9:42-50

42And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

43And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Key Verse: “Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.” Mark 9:50

Message

Salt is the white substance that is added to our meal during its preparation to give it the desired taste. No matter the amount of money spent in preparing a meal, without salt, the food will become tasteless and worthless. Salt always makes the difference. This is the reason Jesus compares a Christian to the substance known as salt. He desires that our lives will show forth the sweet attribute in salt. As salt is valuable to give flavour, cleansing, healing and to preserve from corruption, hence the friends of Jesus must be godly and shining examples in the world. They must reject and resist the moral decay and corruption that is common in our society. Failure to do so will lead to the “salt” losing his saltness. The result is that such a person will be cast out by God and he will be trodden under men.

As a believer, if you have lost your sweetness, Jesus is calling you to come back to Him. You are called to be an agent of peace and righteousness in this present world. If you have missed your way, you can come back now. Ask Jesus to refresh your life, cleanse your heart and give you grace to live as salt of the earth.

Prayer for today: Lord, make me the salt of the earth.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
