DCLM Higher Everyday 19 March 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. KumuyiSalty Saints

Topic: Salty Saints

Text: Mark 9:49-50

49For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Key Verse: “Salt is good, but if the salt has lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves and have peace one with another” (Mark 9:50).

Message

Salt is a preservative that keeps food ingredients (meat, fish, etc.) from going rancid. Christ figuratively uses salt to convey the quality of life expected of every Christian. Followers of Christ must do whatever it takes to be salty, a kind of life that is pure, pleasant, appealing and preservative. Salt can lose its savour through exposure to extreme weather conditions of sun and rain. So Adam Clark says, “A preacher, or private Christian, who has lost the life of Christ, and the witness of his Spirit, out of his soul may be likened to this salt. He may have the sparks and glittering particles of true wisdom but without its unction or comfort.” Have you lost your savour?

Friend, if your saltiness is lost, you need to ask for grace for renewal to restore it to its original state. As a Christian youth, you are expected to be salt of the world. You are to be an example in Christian life and conduct. God expects you to live holily, transparently and peacefully with everyone wherever we find yourself.

Quote: Be salt of the world

Challenge: Watchfulness preserves the salty saints.

Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, help me not to lose my saltiness as a saint.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
