TOPIC: SCRIPTURAL WAY OF SERVICE

TEXT: EPHESIANS 6:5-8

5Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

6Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

7With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

MEMORY VERSE: “Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart” (EPHESIANS 6:6).

MESSAGE:

King David’s charge to Solomon his son was to serve God with a perfect heart and a willing mind. He was to fear God and serve him in truth, maintaining a close relationship with God and His Word.

As Christians, the Bible instructs us to regard all work and service done on earth as services rendered to God. We should work as if Christ is our employer, knowing that all work done wholeheartedly before God will receive a just recompense of reward (Colossians 3:23, 24; Ephesians 5:6-8).

The Scriptural way of serving God and man as Christians must be with sincerity of heart and not with eye service or pretense. You are to serve in obedience and sincerity of heart. Your love for God must be so contagious that the unbelievers around you will observe it. Like the faithful Daniel in Babylon, your lifestyle should challenge them to serve God sincerely. Also, your employers, who are unbelievers, will get to know God in truth and will in turn serve God with sincerity of heart.

QUOTE: Serve in obedience and sincerity.

CHALLENGE: Serve as though God is your employer.

PRAYER: Give me the grace to serve well, oh God.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
