DCLM Higher Everyday 13 November 2024 — Search The Scriptures
DCLM Higher Everyday 13 November 2024 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Search The Scriptures
Topic: Search The Scriptures
Text: John 5:36-40
36But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
38And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
Key Verse: “Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).
Message
Nothing is more satisfying and reassuring to a believer than knowing the truth of the Scripture that can set free. The Bible is complete and has all the truth needed for a believer to follow the right path to heaven. There are many doctrinal errors flying around in some Church assemblies, and the social and traditional media as truth. Your friends may challenge you sometimes about what you believe and the truth you preach. The solution to that kind of question is in being grounded in the truth embedded in the Scriptures. Those who search the Scriptures regularly cannot be deceived by false teachers and preachers.

The Berean Christians would verify whatever they were taught with scriptural backing. They gave themselves wholly to the study of the Scriptures. Searching the Scriptures is not just flipping through the pages of the Bible but its detail examination and study. You should have a jotter where you write down your findings from the Scriptures. You should be able to recite some key verses in the Scriptures to make you grow and know the mind of God.
Quote: Recite some key verses
Challenge: How well do you know the Bible?
Prayer for today: Lord, give me understanding as I study your word.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
