DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2022 — Seasoning your speech
DCLM Higher Everyday 29 October 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Seasoning your speech
TOPIC: SEASONING YOUR SPEECH
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 4:2-6
2Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
3Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
4That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
5Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.
6Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
MEMORY VERSE: “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (COLOSSIANS 4:6).
MESSAGE:
A middle-aged woman who worked as a cab driver once picked up a passenger who turned out to be an armed robber. She surrendered all she had earned that day, then nicely offered to take the robber home. Her final words to him that night were: “Listen! You didn’t rob from me. I gave you the money. Do something good with it and don’t rob again.”
The robber, who was silent throughout the ride, suddenly cried out loud and gave the money back to her. “I promise I won’t do this again, no matter what!” he said.

The words we choose to utter can either make or break people. Kind words bring life and health to others, while grievous words would stir up anger. Just like salt sweetens a meal, let your words sweeten every conversation.
Seek to bring out the best in others. Do not shout at people or put them down. The best way to speak gracious words is to have a sanctified heart, “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34).
QUOTE: Kind words bring life and health.
CHALLENGE: Get sanctified and speak gracious words.
PRAYER: Help me, oh Lord, to always speak gracious words.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
