BIBLE TEXT; NUMBERS 14:6-10`
7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
KEY VERSE: “If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey” (Numbers 14:8).
MESSAGE:
The eye is said to be the gateway into the body. It is so because, through the eyes, we see lots of things in our environment that can influence our actions either negatively or positively. The tongue on the other hand, is an organ of speech that is used to describe whatever the eye sees.
These two organs of the body have a powerful influence on the way we think, act and react to situations. This illustration will help us to understand the way the spies reacted to what they saw in Canaan, in the course of carrying out their assignment. The twelve spies went to the same land, saw the same thing, experienced the same weather condition, but reacted differently. They all saw the giants and also the good fruits. While ten of them confessed that they could not go in to possess the land because they were like grasshoppers, Joshua and Caleb saw everything through the eye of faith. They both confessed that the giants were nothing before them. They also said they were well able to go in to possess the land flowing with milk and honey. That was exactly what happened afterwards.
Only Joshua and Caleb, out of the whole congregation, got to the promised land and possessed their inheritance.
You must not allow the present situation around you to make you afraid. There are great and precious promises in God’s word for you. Whatever you desire, see it as you read the Bible, say it to God in prayers, and seize it as you trust God to do what He has promised.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, please increase my faith to believe Your word.
FURTHER READING: Matthew 7:7-11
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
