TOPIC: NET-BREAKING MIRACLES

TEXT: LUKE 5:1-9

1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret,

2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets.

3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.

4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.

5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

MEMORY VERSE: “And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake” (LUKE 5:6).

MESSAGE:

Elder Bryan Mathison counselled on faith: “When you have faith in God, you don’t have to worry about the future. You just know it’s all in His hands.” The quote elucidates the word “FAITH” that can be aptly described as ‘Forsaking All I Trust Him.’ The situation in the Bible text is a demonstration of how those who exercise faith in God’s word, throw away their own ideology, and do exactly what God says to enjoy a harvest of miracles.

Apostle Peter and his fellow fishermen had fished from dusk till dawn without catching any fish. Then arrived the Lord Jesus in their boat, the Creator of oceans and the fishes therein. He ordered Peter to throw his net in the lake again for a catch; but Peter first doubted. He was still holding on to his human experience.

We should learn to drop our own idea and believe the Lord like Peter. A living faith brings net-breaking miracles. For Christian youths, daily obedience to God in shunning evil practices and preaching the gospel to sinner mates guarantees them divine intervention.

QUOTE: A living faith brings… miracles

CHALLENGE: Learn to drop your idea for God’s own.

PRAYER: Help my unbelief, dear Lord.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
