TOPIC: SETTING YOUR GOALS

TEXT: PROVERBS 16:1-3

1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Key Verse: “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3).

MESSAGE:

God is the Origin and Author of all good things. To achieve success in all areas of life, God’s word must be the guiding principle in setting our goals.

Tolu was watching a football match from the balcony of their house. All the players were targeting the ball, to kick it away from the goalpost of their team towards the opponent’s goalpost.

The dribbling was hot, and suddenly, one player got the ball and kicked it into the goalpost of the opponent, and the shout “It is a goal!” went round the field. When footballers are on the field, their focus is on the ball and how they will score a goal.

A goal therefore is the ultimate desire that you plan and work to achieve. Goals give our life a direction, a purpose for living and encouragement not to give up. Goals give us hope.

You should set goals for every area of your life, ranging from the spiritual to all other areas. To be able to accomplish our goals, it must be SMART.

S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable/Achievable
R – Relevant
T – Time bound

We shall examine them in details over the next few days.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to set my goals and work to achieve such goals.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
