TOPIC: Signs Following Christ’s Followers (DCLM Daily Manna 15 August 2022)

TEXT: Mark 16:14-20 (KJV)

14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

KEY VERSE: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” (MARK 16:17, 18).

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Late Jamie Coots, the pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name in Middlesboro, Kentucky USA, was handling a rattlesnake during a service when he was bitten on his right hand. He refused medical care because he believed that God called upon him to handle venomous serpents and to drink other poisons without being harmed. While the Scripture encourages intelligent and Spirit-guided faith, it does not support presumptuous actions.

In our passage today, Jesus categorically commanded His disciples to go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature – the religious, atheists, unconverted youths and even children. He promised to protect them from harm as they go about preaching the gospel. In obedience to His instructions, they went everywhere preaching and signs followed them.

Jesus promised to be with His disciples because He knew that Satan would want to hinder them from carrying out His instructions. The story of Jesus and the cross is the message that the believer should preach and expect the signs to follow their obedience (Acts 28:1-5).

It is not faith but presumption to deliberately expose ourselves and other people to extreme danger. Miracles are not for show. Believers must show proper decorum and make wise decisions when they face life-threatening situations while doing the Master’s bidding.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The essence of faith is to turn sinners into saints through the gospel.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Job 22-25

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
