DCLM Higher Everyday 19 July 2023 — Sin Not
DCLM Higher Everyday 19 July 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sin Not
Topic: Sin Not
Text: 1 John 2:1-5
2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
Key Verse: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1).
Message
Before the advent of the social media and even electronic mails, messages or letters were written and posted to the recipients using the postal services. God has also written and sent His message and demands to the world. Though we live in a generation in which everyone does what he feels good to him, God has a standard for His children who will live with Him eternally in glory.
In this passage we see that God does not expect any of His children to live in sin under any guise for that is the reason His Son was manifested. At the point of salvation, the Lord gives the power and His nature to His sons and daughters. “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” This is the essence of the sacrifice of Jesus – to make us saints. If you have backslidden from the truth, you need to go back to God in genuine repentance for forgiveness.
Quote: God has a standard for His children
Challenge: God’s children must live in holiness.
Prayer for today: Dear God, Keep me pure in this sinful world in Jesus’ name.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
