DCLM Higher Everyday 26 November 2022 — Sing Hymns before him
DCLM Higher Everyday 26 November 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sing Hymns before him
TOPIC: SING HYMNS BEFORE HIM
TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3:14-17
14And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
MEMORY VERSE: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (COLOSSIANS 3:16).
MESSAGE:
Songs play the dual role of uplifting the soul and provoking God’s mighty power to conquer the enemies of His children and overthrow obstacles in their way. Consider the defeat of the combined armies of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir in 2 Chronicles 20:18-24. King Jehoshaphat and the people of Israel had faith in God. They praised God in songs and He fought their enemies for them.
Do not wait for a conducive condition before signing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Though Hannah was rejoicing for the miracle of childbirth when she sang, “There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God” (1 Samuel 2:2), others sang even in adversity.
Pastor Henry Francis Lyte was sick and in need of healing when he wrote the hymn, “Abide With Me”. He died two months later but his hymn is still blessing multitudes today.
Singing refreshes and empowers. It is a source of encouragement, peace and joy. It is not enough to sing, allow God’s Word to dwell in you richly.
QUOTE: Singing refreshes and empowers.
CHALLENGE: Sing hymns and be catapulted to God’s presence.
PRAYER: Lord, may your praise not cease from my lips.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
