DCLM Higher Everyday 26 January 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Sought With Tears
Topic: Sought With Tears
Text: Hebrews 12:15-17
15Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Key Verse: “For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears” (Hebrews 12: 17).
Message
What a sad way to lose an inheritance, especially when it is sought carefully with tears! That was the situation of Esau who was described as a profane person. He treated his inheritance with contempt as if it didn’t matter to him; but when he needed it most, he couldn’t get it back even with tears. Such is the life of some youths in the society. They despise salvation messages and act as if the Church is a taboo. But when they have challenges, they run back to the same Church seeking solution. Sometimes such efforts are too late. Yet there are some who backslide because of mundane things. Jesus says: “Behold I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”

Esau treated his inheritance with levity and another man took it. Our inheritance seems less important until we lose it. Many have sacrificed their inheritance in Christ for internet fraud, pornography and lust. Where do you stand? Have you lost your inheritance? The Lord is still calling you to reclaim it before it is too late.
Quote: Have you lost your inheritance?
Challenge: Reclaim your inheritance before it is too late.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to obtain and keep my inheritance.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
