DCLM Higher Everyday 15 June 2024 — Sowing and Reaping
Topic: Sowing and Reaping
Text: Galatians 6:6-10
6Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
7Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
Key Verse: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
Message
Sowing and reaping is an agricultural practice that is often used as a spiritual principle. Tom Shadyac said, “You can’t sow an apple seed and expect to get an avocado tree. The consequences of your life are sown in what you do and how you behave.” While sowing refers to one’s action, reaping refers to the results of such action. There are various accounts of sowing and reaping recorded in the scriptures. Haman sowed a seed of hatred when he made gallows to hang Mordecai but reaped destruction because it was himself that was hanged on them. Joseph likewise was able to store food for a great famine that spread throughout the world, and he reaped the benefits by saving his people from starvation.
When youths sow seeds of rebellion, immorality and drug addiction, they in turn reap destruction and delusion in their final end (Hosea 8:7). On the same side of the ledger, those who sow the seed of obedience and purity reap abundance from God (Matthew 13:23). Always remember every action has a consequence.
Quote: Every action has a consequence.
Challenge: You reap what you sow.
Prayer for today: Lord, help me to sow the right seed.
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
