TOPIC: STRANGE FIRE FROM AARON’S SONS

TEXT: Leviticus 10:1-5.

1And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

2And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.

3Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

4And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.

5So they went near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp; as Moses had said.

Memory Verse
“And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not” (Leviticus 10:1).

MESSAGE:

Commenting on the strange fire offered to God by Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, John F. MaCArthur said, “The crux of their sin was approaching God in a careless, self-willed, inappropriate manner without the reverence He deserved.” They did not treat Him as holy or exalt His name before the people. The Lord’s response was swift and deadly. This is a sobering and terrifying account, and it has obvious implications for the church in our time.” This assertion is very pertinent to Christian youths in their zeal to serve God.

The Lord delights in the service of His children. However, it is sinful to dishonour God, treat Him with contempt, or approach Him carelessly. Beloved, in your zeal to serve God, do not offer strange fire through disorderly worship, service, or preaching of false doctrine. If you preach or sing in the choir, what is your motive? Is it to worship God or to entertain and draw the applause of the congregation? We must serve God with reverence and sobriety, lest we incur His wrath.

Quote: Do not offer strange fire

Challenge: Worship and serve God in holiness and sobriety.

Prayer: Help me Lord to reverence you in all that I do.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
