DCLM Sincere Milk 23 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Success through diligence
TOPIC: SUCCESS THROUGH DILIGENCE
TEXT: PROVERBS 10:1-5
2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Key Verse: “He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich” (Proverbs 10:4).
MESSAGE:
The Bible contains instructions on how to be truly successful and happy in life. Verse 4 of our Bible passage shows us that a child who does his work properly will be rich. A child who is not serious with his work will be poor. Lots of food are available in the forest for animals living there to eat. But they have to make some effort to get to the food in order to survive.
Things go really wrong when we wait for success to come to us by chance. A newspaper carried a news item sometime ago that some elephants in a park in Thailand were found hijacking (unlawfully seizing) sugarcane shipments. Typically, one elephant blocked the road while others unloaded the sugarcane from the trucks. Feeling robbed, the human owners looked on helplessly.

The elephants found robbery as a short cut to getting food because they got used to living by food thrown to them by tourists. For this reason, the management of the park stopped tourists from throwing food to the elephants in the park. Avoid unlawful shortcuts to success such as cheating in examinations, stealing or telling lies to get favour.
Be diligent so that you can have a successful spiritual life too. Growth in your Christian life requires diligence as well. Have special time when you personally read your Bible and pray daily. Believe and pray on God’s promises until you receive a clean heart, fulness of His Holy Spirit and power to help solve people’s problems through the gifts of the Spirit.
Prayer: Lord, please help me to be diligent so as to be successful in all I do.

1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
