DCLM HIGHER EVERYDAY 23 September 2022 — Go! be alone with God

DCLM Higher Everyday 23 September 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Go! be alone with God

TOPIC: GO! BE ALONE WITH GOD

TEXT: MARK 1:35-39

35And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

36And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

37And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.

38And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

39And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

MEMORY VERSE: “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed” (MARK 1:35).

MESSAGE:

Charles G. Finney was a great revivalist who led hundreds of thousands of souls to Christ. He revealed the secret of his spiritual power: “On those days I would seek to be entirely alone with God, and would generally wander off into the woods, or get into the meeting-house or somewhere away entirely by myself.”

Today’s youths also wander off quite alright. They wander off into the fantasy world of video games, social media, fashion trends, and porn sites. Alone with God? The fear of missing out on fun makes that an impossible idea for many today. And that is very sad.

Disciples of Christ are often encouraged to ask, “What would Jesus do?” Jesus would start out the day with prayer. While the disciples slept, He would slip quietly away to be alone with God. Therefore, He was powerful and they were powerless in the time of need.

Jesus is our perfect example. Spiritually speaking, solitude begets altitude. Spend time alone with God daily in prayer and scripture meditation, and you shall never be alone in the evil day. Amen!

QUOTE: Solitude begets altitude.

CHALLENGE: Spend quality time with God in prayer.

PRAYER: Deliver me Lord, from the tyranny of things.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
