TOPIC: SUPPORT THE WEAK

TEXT: ACTS 20:34-38

34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.

37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,

38 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

MEMORY VERSE: “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive” (ACTS 20:35).

MESSAGE:

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others.”

We live in a world of “survival of the fittest” – a world where the strong live at the expense of the weak. Many people live today as if we are still in the era where the Nazi “law” viewed some fellow humans as weak and undesirable.

We must treat the weak in our society kindly, and not wickedly. With our sincere love of the Scriptures, we should act beyond mere tolerance for the weak.

But who are the weak in our society today? They include the fatherless, who have never known fatherly love; foster children, who bounce from home to home without care; prisoners, who are hardly visited by anybody; the unborn, whose body parts as aborted babies, are sometimes trafficked by heartless people; and the spiritually helpless, who are likely to draw back to perdition.

The Scripture commands us to support them as a mark of our real love, humility and faith in God.

QUOTE: Treat the weak in our society kindly.

CHALLENGE: Help the poor and needy around you, if you can.

PRAYER: Precious Lord, help me to be more compassionate.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
