TOPIC: DON’T BE OVERCONFIDENT!

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:11-13

11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Key Verse: “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12).

MESSAGE:

Felix shouted “Just one mark!” when he learnt that Debby scored 93%, which was just one percent higher than the 92% he scored in the final examination. Debby came out as the best overall student. In addition to other gifts, she got a scholarship for her secondary and tertiary education.

Felix had been the one leading the class for years and would have come out as the best overall student, if not for his overconfidence which made him to become less serious with his studies.

Overconfidence is having more confidence in yourself than you should have. It makes a child take wrong decisions, make mistakes and become lazy. Don’t be overconfident. Listen attentively to your teachers, ask questions when necessary, do your homework, and prepare well for examinations.

Don’t be overconfident. Read your Bible and pray to God for grace to love and obey Him every day. Don’t forget to daily read your Sincere Milk too. Samson did not listen to the advice of his parents; he was overconfident and lost the grace of God and his two eyes to the enemy.

Choose to listen to, and take to the corrections of your godly parents and teachers, and it will be well with you. Confidence is good, but overconfidence is bad.

Prayer: Dear Father, help me not to be overconfident.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
