DCLM Higher Everyday  29 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Support The Weak

Topic: Support The Weak

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14

12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

Key Verse: “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men” (I Thessalonians 5:14).

Message

“If you would be interesting, be interested; if you would be pleased, be pleasing: if you would be loved, be lovable; if you would be helped, be helpful,” declared William Arthur Ward. The above quote explains Christ’s teaching on the essential support we must all give to the less privileged around us. Jesus said we should do to others what we expect from them. This underscores the pivotal role of love in human relationships.

The Lord does not encourage idleness or laziness, yet we must not forget to help whenever we come across the needy. Probably on daily basis, we come across the disadvantaged, who are neglected and abandoned by people who could have helped them. Our Christian profession will be called to question if we lack sympathy for the poor, weak and needy. It is on record, that, “Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the prices of the things that were sold and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need” (Acts 4:31-35).

Quote: We must not forget to help

Challenge: Do to others what you wish they do to you.

Prayer for today: Oh God, make me a helper of the joys of others.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
