DCLM Higher Everyday 28 August 2023 — Assist Those In Adversity

DCLM Higher Everyday  28 August 2023 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Assist Those In Adversity

Topic: Assist Those In Adversity

Text: Hebrew 13:1-3

1Let brotherly love continue.

2Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

3Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

Key Verse: “Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body” (Hebrews 13:3).

Message

Assisting the needy is copiously commanded in the Bible, which is also replete with precepts and practices in obedience to divine injunctions. But as selfishness, materialism and worldliness continue in their ever-raging war against our souls, many modern-day Christians are increasingly ignoring this call. However, John Wesley said, “Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as you ever can.”

Yes, indeed, “We can’t help everyone, but… everyone can help someone,” says Dr. Loretta Scott. Your little show of compassion by sharing the gospel, your food, clothing, shelter, knowledge, skills, and other resources might encourage some distressed souls. It could be the only opportunity someone may have to feel the love of Jesus. Sharing the gospel of Christ is even a command in the Bible which should be obeyed. You should share it directly or indirectly through the various social media handles.

Quote: Everyone can help someone

Challenge: Invest in eternity by assisting the needy.

Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, teach me to give selflessly, like my Master, Jesus.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
